FK/IK Switching:
Interval Matching
Passing control between FK and IK is easy
- Just drive the native FK/IK parameter
- GUI: Drive the param from a neutral location!
Avoiding hitches is the hard part
- Make sure that both sets of keys match physically!
Interval matching:
- Keys at both ends of a transition must be doubled up
- It's even better if all keys are doubled
- FK/IK Blends are a good cheat
- Add a bit of wobble to an IK move
- Add some power to an FK step
Script based (set matching keys on demand)
- Simpler to build and maintain
- Extra work for the animator
Callback based (set matching keys automatically)
- Hard to use with auto-key
